Hola! My name is Manuel Merchan and I am thrilled to be joining the Coalbanks learning community. I am originally from Colombia and have been calling Canada home for the past 15 years. I completed a BA in Environmental Science in 2012 and discovered a passion for teaching while volunteering at the Calgary Zoo. After graduating from the education program at the University of Calgary, I spent 2 years teaching in Northern Alberta’s Indigenous communities. Aside from teaching, I can be found hiking, climbing, backpacking, and camping in the beautiful Rocky Mountains along with my wife. I am very excited to be part of the Coalbanks team and can’t wait to meet the students and families.
